Funding and opportunities
Call for Special Issue Proposals, and calls for papers. To this end, we particularly welcome proposals that share the journal’s participatory ethos, are international in scope, and which clearly state how they will make use of the range of publishing formats that SRO offers – including original articles, Sociology in Action and Beyond the Text articles.

Ethics and trauma-informed research
The Language Project offers guidance on using person-first language within journalism as well as academic contexts. The articles are written by those with lived experience
Conducting Ethical Health Research in Prisons, up-to-date, thorough guidance for undertaking health research in prisons/with people in prison and navigating ethics applications. Contributors include a broad interdisciplinary and international list of authors and organisations, with critical insight into engagement, stigma, and planning and carrying out research as ethically as possible.
The New Jim Crow: Mass Incarceration in an Age of Colorblindness, documents the trail of racial discrimination in the US justice system and incarceration, as well as carceral citizenship and the impact on non-white Americans.
Wellbeing and peer support
Researcher Wellbeing Plan. This is a tool that researchers can use to help them think about and plan how they will care for themselves (and be cared for) whilst undertaking emotionally challenging research.
